* 4th Grade Learning Buddies

Here we are with our 4th Grade Learning Buddies. We gather together every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:30-10:45. We work together to learn many things. We do all kinds of learning in math, reading, and art. We make projects together too! One of our favorite part of the day is when we have buddies. We also really like it when we see our buddies at recess, lunch, at an assembly, in the hallway, or anyplace at school or in the neighborhood. Before our buddies leave our class each day, we thank them for helping us learn to read and write.

* Positive Email Thoughts from Parents

Just trying to keep my bubbles in the air!

Hey'all... I just wanted a place on my blog to keep the positive email's that come from my teaching parents! Some days I need to remind myself that some homes are grateful for the time a teacher gives to their student.

I will add to this blog each time I get a "nibble."

Mrs. Probert,

"I hope that this note finds you well. I know that school has just started & you are very busy, but I need to thank you!! We had to transfer Kylie over to Lakeview in Roy because of our move!! We finally found a house, unfortunately Dave isn’t here to share in the joys of buying it. Kylie is doing well in her new school & seems to be adjusting to the new environment. I feel like you are a huge part of the reason she is doing so well. You are an amazing woman & an amazing teacher!! You have given Kylie the tools necessary to succeed and for that I have to thank you!! You have touched our lives and given our precious daughter a wonderful gift, the gift of love for school & a yearning to learn. Thank you for everything you have done!!!

Please continue to be the person & the great teacher you are & I know that many more children will be touched as well!!"
Thank You,
Heather A

I REPLIED WITH MUCH THANKS TO KYLIE AND HER FAMILY!!!

* Meet Us

We are 5 and 6 years old and we are in Kindergarten! Our Kindergarten Year is 2008-2009. Our school has 4 full day kindergarten classes. Today there are 24 kids in our class. We have 8 girls and 16 boys. We have one teacher, one Tutor, and one University Volunteer. Our class size is always changing because our families "are on the go." It is hard to have our friends move away, but we know we will always be friends. And... we know new friends will move in soon. Sometimes our class size can be as many as 28 or 29. This photo was taken in our school yard. We hope you enjoy learning more about us on our blog. We would like to hear from you if you are a kindergarten. How many kids are in your class? How many girls? How many boys?

*Ways of Learning the Alphabet

Ways of Learning the Alphabet

The name of the letter
Show your child a letter card and ask him/her to tell you the name of the letter.
The way the letter looks
Talk about the shape of the letter.
What is the composition of the letter . . . circles, sticks, tails, etc.?
The sound the letter makes
Show your child a letter card and ask him/her to make the sound that the letter produces.
Remember that each vowel makes two sounds.
The feel and look of the letter in our mouths (look in a mirror)

Focus on the pronunciation of the letter and the production of the sound. Where is the tongue, and what is it doing? Where are your teeth? (It helps to look in a mirror for this exercise.)
I purchased a round makeup mirror with a stand at the local drugstore for this purpose. It was easy for children to handle, easy to store and the magnified side is great.

The movement of the letter as it is written (talk it through in steps)T
alk through the method of producing the letter in printed form.

A word or anchor that children associate with the letter
Example: A, a, apple gives children an anchor to use as a memory tool.
The way the letter looks within a word

All I Ever Really Needed To Know I Learned In Kindergarten

by Robert Fulghum

Reprinted from the Kansas City Times,

September 17, 1986
Most of what I really need to know about how to live, and what to do, and how to be, I learned in Kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sandbox at nursery school.
These are the things I learned:

Share everything.
Play fair.

Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.

Clean up your own mess.

Don't take things that aren't your's.

Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.

Wash your hands before you eat.

Flush.

Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.

Live a balanced life.

Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.

Take a nap every afternoon.

When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands and stick together.

Be aware of wonder.

Remember the little seed in the plastic cup. The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really know how or why, but we are all like that.

Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the plastic cup - they all die. So do we.
And then, remember the book about Dick and Jane and the first word you learned, the biggest word of all: LOOK.

Everything you need to know is in there somewhere.

The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation.

Ecology and politics and sane living.
Think of what a better world it would be if we all - had cookies and milk about 3 o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with the our blankets for a nap. Or if we had a basic policy in our nation and other nations to always put things back where we found them and clean up our own messes. And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out into the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.
