Living takes money. And hard work. Learning to work starts early in life. We can set our path now by doing our best.

I realize that this is a BIG discussion for Kindergarten kids... but it is working.

We talked about the vacations we have been on and the ones we hope to take. We talked about the places we've been that we'd like to go back to.

We talked about what kind of car we want to drive when we grow up... Would we be safe in this car?
Would you like to drive this car? Would you be safe in this car?

How about this car?

Or this car?

Or this?

We talked about taking care of our emotions and learning to smile. We talked about taking care of our teeth.

We talked about shopping. Would you like to shop here?

Would you like to work at a job where you could earn enough money to live here?

Is this the place you would want to shower, a place to get clean?

Would you be happy if this were all that you had?

How would you feel if this is where you kept your clothes?

This boy looks happy.
Do you think he is?

Would you like to sleep here or here?

or here?

When you grow up, do you want to chew your food? Do you keep your teeth healthy now?

This man needs a job.
What job do you think this man could do?
Would he be a good doctor?
Would he be a good cook?
Would he be a good dad?
Would he be a good friend?
Would he be a good dentist?
He is a good person.
He could be anything he worked at being.
He would have to change a few things and he would have to work hard.
What would he have to change?

Would you like to sleep here? This man is sick. He needs to be in a doctor's care, but he can't pay for help. He is lonely and lost.

Would you like this to be your home? Would you like this to be your neighborhood? Would you like to play in this neighborhood?

If you didn't have a home, where would you go at night? Where would you go when it was cold?

Would you like to sleep here?

Would you like to walk around all day pushing your things around with you in a shopping cart like this man?

...or like this woman? Even children live like this with their mom or dad or sometimes with both of their parents. Sometimes kids live on the streets all by themself.
The only power this person has is the power to push her cart.

A homeless person is using a public restroom. This is a bag with her things sitting on the floor in the bathroom.

This person has lost her power.
Would you be happy if you were this person?
Would you feel lonely?
What choices should this person make?
Sometimes it is hard to find work.
This person might not have the skills needed to find a good job.

This person is laughing.
This person is happy.
Would you be happy if you were this person?

Has she lost her power?

Here is a group of friends. Does it look like they are having fun?

The man is playing a song hoping that someone will give him some money so he can buy some food.
They don't have much power.

The choice is BIG. You can choose to be a grown up who has a happy family. You can choose to be a grown up who lives in a home together where you can be safe and warm. These people have their power. They are honest and good. They work hard. They play and enjoy life together.

Choose now to do your best work.
Choose now to listen to your teacher the first time.
Choose now to follow directions.
Choose now to be a good friend.
Choose now to make a difference for someone.... maybe even for yourself.
Choose to share and take turns.
Choose to take care of materials.
Choose to keep your kindergarten power.

* My "Summer Time!"

Hello Kinder-Bugs! It's time for me to re-charge my body for next fall's Kinder-bugs!....
Many moments will be dedicated to learning new teaching strategies, always so much to do as a teacher staying on top of the game!
And... many moments will be dedicated to my family. The smile box below includes photos of my hubby and our 7 grand-kids (soon to be 8 in July!) They are all living here in Utah this summer!!!!!!!! They are a beautiful part of my life. Not pictured: 2 fabulous sons & 1 fabulous son-in-law, 2 gorgeous daughters and 1 gorgeous daughter-in-law.
I will also be spending time with my mother. She lives in an assisted care facility close to my home. Also... time with my syblings and father... just hanging out!
Thanks for letting me share!
Please feel free to email me and let me know how you are enjoying your summer!

Mr. Clark, you are amazing! Thank you for your gift, the flowers are beautiful. Thank you for talking with the children about car safety. And, thank you for teaching them about sod, soil, annuals, perenials, plant names, turning the soil, and turkey manure! Thank you for teaching them about friendship.
